DEATH OF A TUSKER
  2009-09-19

I was very saddened to hear of the death of Kublai Khan at Heen-wewa last month. Even though I have not been an avid Elephant follower nor a person who keep notes on them, but I remember his name been mentioned lovingly by Ravi and Lal Anthonis and lots of Colleagues. And I have seen many shots it also.

This is the 2nd great Loss to all Elephant Lovers after the death of the Crossed Tusker at Kumana. I was fascinated by seeing some pictures that ravi had taken of the crossed Tusker, one of which was exhibited at our joint exhibition in 2005. Its sheer majesty just captivates anyone. That print was sold right away on the first day of the exhibition.

I have attached a picture of a Tusker, which i believe is of Kublai Khan taken by me in November 2005,correct me if i am wrong. Can anyone out there identify it. I am not a great elephant follower, but I love to take their pictures.

Ifham .. this is not Kublai Khan .. this looks very close to Gengis Khan .. a much older tusker who is very friendly and hardly excited with a jeep at very close distance. This animal had very long tusks but had broken them off later in life. You could see from the years that this one is well over 40 years old.
